Sneaky Names for Sugar
There are so so so many ways food manufacturers sneak sugar into our food. And why wouldn't they? It's cheap, and no one has called them out for it. Well, plenty of people have - but I won't get started on food politics right here.
Below is a list of some of the names of sugar you can search for when you're auditing ingredient listings on your favourite foods (and keep in mind, there are many more than these).
Barley malt syrup
Cane juice crystals
Coconut palm sugar
Corn syrup solids
Dehydrated cane juice Demerara sugar
Evaporated cane juice
Free-flowing brown sugars
Fruit juice concentrate
HFCS (High-Fructose Corn Syrup)
Try stay away from these and opt for real fresh fruit if you'd like a sweet hit. A great article on alternative sweeteners can be found here.
